Delete your Atom Budget account

Last updated August 31, 2026

You can delete your Atom Budget account yourself, at any time, from inside the app. It takes about fifteen seconds and it does not go through us. This page explains how, what gets deleted, and what to do if you can no longer sign in.

1. Delete your whole account

In the Atom Budget app on your phone, or on the website:

  1. Sign in.
  2. Open Settings, then the Account section.
  3. Scroll to Delete account and choose Delete.
  4. Confirm when we ask. We ask once, and only once.

Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no grace period and no way for us to undo it, so if you want a copy of your budget first, use Export my data in that same Account section before you delete.

2. What gets deleted

Everything that makes up your account:

  • Your login: email address, name, and any second factor you enrolled.
  • Every income and expense, along with their schedules, notes, colors and amounts.
  • Your categories, savings goals, payment history and notification preferences.
  • Your bank connections. We disconnect them at Plaid first, so Plaid stops receiving your data too, and we delete the transactions and recurring bills we imported.
  • Any Atom Budget Pro subscription, which we cancel at our payment processor before the account goes, so you are not billed after leaving.

If a bank cannot be disconnected or a subscription cannot be cancelled at that moment, we stop and delete nothing, and tell you to try again. We would rather fail loudly than leave your bank connected to an account that no longer exists.

3. What is kept, and for how long

  • Encrypted backups. Residual copies persist briefly in our provider's encrypted backups and are overwritten on the normal backup cycle, within 30 days. They are not accessible to the product and are never used to restore a deleted account.
  • Payment records. If you ever paid us, our payment processor keeps the transaction records it is required to keep for tax and accounting purposes. These are billing records, not your budget.
  • A record of the deletion itself, where the law requires us to retain one.

Nothing else is kept. We do not retain a shadow copy of your budget, and we do not sell or share your information, before or after deletion.

4. Delete some of your data without closing your account

You do not have to delete your account to get rid of data in it:

  • An income or expense. Open it from the Incomes or Expenses list and choose Delete. Its schedule and payment history go with it.
  • Your bank connection and everything from it. Settings, then Banks, then disconnect. This revokes our access at Plaid and removes the transactions and recurring bills we imported. Anything you already turned into a budgeted bill stays, because at that point it is yours, not the bank's. Delete those individually if you want them gone too.
  • A category or a savings goal, each from its own screen. Deleting a category leaves the incomes and expenses that used it in place, uncategorised.

5. If you cannot sign in

If you have lost access to your account, or have already uninstalled the app, email [email protected] from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We verify that the request comes from the account's own email address before acting, and we will confirm when it is done.

If you can still sign in, please use the in-app route above. It is immediate, and it does not require you to wait on us.
