About Atom Budget
Atom Budget answers one question most budgeting apps skip: how much of this paycheck already belongs to bills that haven't arrived yet?
Why it exists
Paychecks and bills don't share a calendar. Most people are paid weekly, every two weeks, or twice a month, while rent is monthly, insurance is quarterly, and the car registration lands once a year. Every budgeting app can tell you what you spent last month. Almost none can tell you what this paycheck has to cover.
Atom Budget starts there. Every income and expense you add carries its real schedule, and the app works out what each paycheck must set aside so that every bill is already funded when it arrives, whether it repeats weekly, biweekly, twice a month, monthly, quarterly, or yearly. There is no month-end surprise and no mental arithmetic about which check the electric bill comes out of. That per-paycheck allocation is the whole idea, and everything else in the app serves it.
Who's behind it
Atom Budget is built by Bunker Studios LLC, an independent software company in the United States. Independent means exactly what it sounds like. There are no investors pushing for growth at your expense, no advertising business attached to the product, and no department whose job is to turn your information into revenue. The product is funded by the people who use it, which keeps the incentives pointed in one direction: the app works for you, because you are the customer and not the product.
What happens to your data
The short version is below, and the long version is in the privacy policy.
- No analytics, no trackers, no ad pixels. The site runs no Google Analytics, no session recorders, and no third-party tracking scripts of any kind.
- Your data is never sold or shared for advertising. Not at any price, not in aggregate, and not "anonymised".
- Your financial data never trains machine-learning models.
- Bank connections are optional. They are handled by Plaid, your bank credentials never touch our servers, and you can disconnect and delete the stored data at any time.
- Deleting your account deletes your data. Deletion means deletion, not deactivation.
- Two-factor authentication is built in. Every row in the database is isolated to its owner at the database level, not just in the application.
Where it's going
The core of the app, per-paycheck allocation across mismatched schedules, is live and free. Bank connections, which pull your recurring bills in automatically instead of asking you to type them, are becoming the paid tier that keeps the lights on. The plan is deliberately boring: charge a fair price for the expensive feature, keep the core free, and never make the data the business model.
